Buhari lauds Anthony Joshua over victory

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has hailed the recent victory of Nigerian-born boxer, Anthony Joshua, over Jermaine Franklin in a statement released on Saturday. Buhari praised Joshua for his resilience and determination in defeating a formidable opponent.

According to Femi Adesina, the Special Assistant to the President, Buhari extolled Joshua’s mentality, highlighting his ability to overcome personal setbacks and obstacles without denting his resilient spirit. He went on to commend Joshua’s hard work, patience, dedication, persistence and humility, and declared that Joshua’s triumph proves that “those who dare, win.”

The President also lauded Joshua for his courage and discipline, on and off the ring, and expressed his belief that Joshua’s success would inspire many upcoming professionals, particularly sportsmen and women, not to be discouraged by temporary defeats and setbacks.

Buhari further wished Joshua a bright future and a fulfilling career, stating that his recent win will serve as a stepping stone to one of the greatest comebacks in boxing history.

Anthony Joshua recently returned to winning ways after defeating Franklin in a unanimous points triumph at the London 02 Arena. This victory marked Joshua’s first win in over two years, following consecutive losses to WBA (Super), IBF, and WBO world champion Oleksandr Usyk.

The Nigerian-born boxer is one of the most popular and successful boxers in the world, having won several world titles in the heavyweight division. His recent victory has further cemented his position as one of the best boxers of his generation.
