Buhari grieves over 20 children killed in Niamey fire, Niger

President Muhammadu Buhari has sympathised with the government and citizens of Niger Republic over lives lost after fire gutted a primary school in Niamey, killing over 20 children.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, announced this in a statement named ‘President Buhari: Niamey fire incident extremely horrific.’

Shehu cited President Buhari as expressing “deep sorrow” on the mishap in a message to President Mohammed Bazoum.

President Buhari was also cited as depicting the incident leading to the demise of the children who are mostly between the ages of three to five years as “heart-wrenching and extremely horrific.”

Buhari was additionally cited as saying that, “On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, we commiserate with our brotherly neighbours on this tragic loss.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, families and communities affected by this unfortunate incident. Wishing quick recovery to those who were injured.”
