PDP fires back at Buhari as President says government has succeeded

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while wishing Nigerian Children a happy Children’s Day celebration, berated President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) for supposedly mortgaging their future.

PDP lamented that on a day that Nigerian children should join their peers worldwide to celebrate, the last six years has been a sad reminder of the severe situations they undergo during the Buhari government.

This was contained in a statement entitled, ‘Stop Mortgaging the Future of Nigerian Children, PDP Tells Buhari, APC,” signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja, on Thursday.

Ologbondiyan stated, “Under President Buhari, violence against children, child trafficking and other acts that infringe on the rights of the child have escalated to a frightening proportion.

“Moreover, the Buhari-led APC administration has continued to mortgage the future of Nigerian children with its humongous corruption and reckless foreign borrowings, which is putting a huge yoke on the feeble shoulders of our innocent children.”

The PDP added that under the present government, Nigeria accounts for about 10.1 million out of school children, the highest in sub-Sahara Africa.

The party, however, declared that it was in addition to over 19 million children suffering in Internally Displaced Persons camps in several parts of the nation, with many more murdered or orphaned by terrorists under APC’s government.

PDP appealed to President Buhari to end his government’s indifference to the children by sending special motivations to increase access to education, healthcare and also assure the security and safety of children, particularly in crisis areas. The APC was yet to reply to questions as at the time of filing this report.
