Buhari announces Godswill Obioma as new NECO registrar

Two days after sacking Charles Uwakwe, President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Godswill Obioma as the registrar and chief executive officer (CEO) of the National Examination Council (NECO).

 

Uwakwe was suspended from the position in May 2018 over alleged mismanagement of N25 billion.

Until his appointment, Obioma was the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) resident electoral commissioner (REC) in Ebonyi state.

In a statement on Friday, Azeez Sani, head, information and public relations of NECO, said Obioma’s appointment is for an initial tenure of five years which would take effect from May 14.

The new registrar born 1953 is from from Bende local government area of Abia state.

Obioma is a professor of education measurement and evaluation. He was a director, monitoring, research and statistics at the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB). He was also the executive secretary of the Nigeria Educational Research and Development Council.
