Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a Bus Rapid Transit driver, Bohan Abiodun, before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ogba for manslaughter, TopNaija reports.

On September 30, 2020, Abiodun, while driving around 4am, rammed into a commercial motorcycle conveying two passengers to a destination in the Ile-Igbo area of Abule-Egba, Lagos State.

The motorcyclist was reportedly plying the BRT route without switching on the headlamp of his motorcycle when tragedy struck.

The rider and one of the passengers died on the spot, while the other passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Forty-eight-year-old Abiodun was arraigned on two counts bordering on reckless driving and manslaughter before Chief Magistrate O.A. Olayinka.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that Abiodun caused the death of three people, adding that the offence contravened sections 51 and 52 of the Road Traffic Laws of Lagos State, 2018.

Chief Magistrate Olayinka, however, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N750,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The case was adjourned till November 30 for hearing.
