Brothers steals ceiling fans from mosque, bags 3 months jail term each

A court in Ogun state has sentenced two brothers to three months imprisonment each for stealing two ceiling fans from a Mosque in Ota.

The judgement was delivered by an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun state on Monday.

The two brothers, Anu, 20 and Tayo Akinsanya,18, had stolen two ceiling fans worth N44,000.

According to the Prosecution Counsel, Inspector E.O. Adaraloye, the brothers had committed the offence on March 17 at about 11.30 pm.

Adaraloye claimed that the convicts had broken into the Iwoye Central Mosque and stolen the two ceiling fans.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 390(9), 451, and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The convicts, whose addresses were not provided, were thus charged with theft and burglary.

Magistrate A. O. Adeyemi observed that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubts, and found the duo guilty of the charge preferred against them.

Delivering his ruling, Adeyemi sentenced the two brothers to three months imprisonment each without an option of fine.
