Brendan Rodgers Praises Iheanacho Despite 1-0 Defeat
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has praised Kelechi Iheanacho’s recent performances despite their 1-0 defeat to Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday. The Foxes were unable to get past Southampton’s goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, who made a string of saves to deny them an equalizer.
Iheanacho, who has struggled for form earlier in the season, has been featuring regularly for the Foxes lately, and has two goals and three assists in his last six games for the club. Despite his side’s defeat, Rodgers was impressed with the Nigerian international’s contribution to the team.
“He’s been brilliant for us of late. He’s been the one who looks like the threat. He kept fighting and kept working,” said Rodgers in a post-match interview with the Leicester Mercury.
Iheanacho had two opportunities to score, both headers, but failed to convert them into goals. Despite this, Rodgers remained positive about his performance, and believes the 26-year-old will continue to be a key player for the Foxes.
Leicester City, currently sitting in fourth place in the Premier League table, will look to bounce back from their defeat when they host Watford at the King Power Stadium next weekend.
