The general meeting of the academic and non-academic staff of the institution convened by a joint committee of all Staff Unions said the Governing Council and the Oyo State Government have repeatedly refused to implement the minimum wage for workers in the polytechnic.
They insisted that the strike would be total and comprehensive and that no worker and essential service providers were exempted from the industrial action until government acceded to the demands.
Chairman, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP), Abiodun Abegunde, said the issue would be fought to a logical conclusion, adding that several efforts had been made to resolve the impasse, but to no avail.
The union leader said the wage structure the unions were demanding was even lower than what was being enjoyed in other states.
On his part, Chairman, Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the institution, Ibrahim Akande, said the Governing Council was incapacitated by the overreaching activities of the consultant.
