BREAKING: Election tribunal sacks Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye

The Election Tribunal sitting in Kogi State has sacked Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West Senatorial district.

Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party was declared the winner in the February election by INEC, but Senator Smart Adeyemi (APC) approached the election tribunal, challenging INEC’s declaration citing, irregularities, over voting and noncompliance with the electoral acts.

The three-man panel led by Justice A. O. Chijioke in a unanimous judgment on Friday accepted Adeyemi’s ground and sacked Dino Melaye from Kogi West senatorial district. The court ordered for a reelection.

Melaye has taken to his Twitter account (@dino_melaye) to say there’s no cause for alarm over the ruling.

The senator, who is contesting in the November 16 Kogi governorship election, said he’ll challenge the ruling at the Appeal Court.

“Our mandate cannot be taken. We will get judgment at the Appeal Court. There will be fresh election in Kogi West bc I will be Governor. For my Senate mandate no shaking,” he posted.
