BREAKING: Buhari to appoint Adamu Adamu as Nigeria’s Chief Of Staff

President Muhammadu Buhari, is likely to announce Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, a Nigerian accountant and journalist who is currently serving as the Minister of Education, as his new Chief of Staff very soon, TopNaija.ng reports.

If appointed, Adamu will replace Abba Kyari, who died from complications of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

Abba Kyari died at a private hospital in Lagos and was buried at the Gudu Cemetery in Abuja on Saturday.

A top government source, who spoke with SaharaReporters, said Buhari would have wanted Babagana Kingibe but was prevailed upon to drop him.

The source however, said, “The President actually wanted Kingibe but a lot of people prevailed upon him to drop the idea as Kingibe was not trustworthy as he betrayed and abandoned both his previous principals Abiola and Yaradua in their hours of need.”

The announcement of Adamu’s appointment as Buhari’s COS is expected to happen soon.

TopNaija.ng had earlier published a report, four days ago, about six possible successors of Kyari as Nigeria’s Chief of Staff, including Adamu Adamu.

According to a report on The Times on Sunday, Kingibe, who has served the nation in different capacities as a diplomat, Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1993 to 1995, Minister of Internal Affairs from 1995 to 1997, Minister of Power and Steel from 1997 to 1998; and Secretary to the Government of the Federation from 2007 to 2008, has been appointed to fill the vacant position.

The magazine reports that Kingibe has been acting as Chief of Staff to President Buhari since Kyari left the Presidency for treatment.

Adamu was first appointed Minister of Education by President Muhammadu Buhari on 11 November 2015, along with 35 others, when the president made his first major appointments. He was however reappointed on 21 August 2019.
