Landslide hits a river in the locality of Bolowa in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and kills at least 21 people and leaving several others missing on April 3rd, 2023.

The bodies of eight women and 13 children were discovered, and search efforts are ongoing to find other potential victims.

A civil society leader stated that the landslide occurred as people were washing clothes and cleaning kitchenware, and it may have been triggered by heavy rainfall in the area.

The region has been plagued by violence and conflict, with multiple armed groups active in the area and a long-running sexual violence crisis.
