Former heavyweight world champion, Deontay Wilder has been immortalised in his native hometown, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, US.

Deontay attended a ceremony at the Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports offices where the statue was unravelled for the first time.

Accompanied by his family and some boxing fans, the former champion took a series of pictures with the statue.

Wilder was honoured by removing the cover of the statue. Surprised, the boxer shouted, “it’s me”.

He then proceeded to hug, kiss and caress the statue.

He said, “for the first time in my life I am speechless, this is generational wealth, this is black excellence, this is great”.

Wilder won the heavyweight title in 2015 and has made 10 defences since then.
