BOI to address youth joblessness with tech hubs

The Bank of Industry (BOI) has disclosed plans to set up tech hubs to tackle youth joblessness in the nation.

Concerned about the high level of youth unemployment presently at 33.3 per cent, BOI explicitly declared that it would sponsor tech hubs in acknowledgment of the talented youths in universities.

Also, the necessity to impart youth to more creative and gainful ends instead of social vices like internet fraud.

The Managing Director of BOI, Olukayode Pitan, announced this at the BOI-Unilag Incubation and Co-working hub opening and commissioning in University of Lagos.

Pitan said that the industry stays focused to provide funds to help trustworthy and profitable ideas that arise from the tech hubs to allow them to begin operations and ascend into worthwhile businesses.

The BOI boss added that accepting technology and imparting it into business processes will make organisations and the nation more competitive stating that the tech industry can be a key leader of a diverse economy.

He said, “It can create exciting jobs that encourage our young people to stay in Nigeria even as they work and compete globally.

“BOI is happy to support this programme because it aligns with our mission to transform Nigeria’s industrial sector by providing financial and business support services so that new businesses will emerge and existing enterprise will thrive.

Pitan stated that the entire goal is to guarantee that the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) investments of the bank produce improved advantages for the nation.

He also emphasised that a hub like this offers young people the opportunity to generate legitimate wealth while adding their own quota to economic growth of Lagos State and Nigeria in its entirety.
