Body of Late NYSC Corps Member Ifedolapo to be Exhumed for Autopsy

Following President Muhammadu Buhari’s order for an ‎independent investigation to unravel the true circumstances surrounding the death of Miss Ifedolapo Oladepo, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who died‎ in Kano State orientation camp, the body of the deceased corps member is to be exhumed for autopsy.

Minister of Youths and Sports Solomon Dalung disclosed this in an interview with State House Correspondents on Thursday. ‎

According to Dalung, the investigation ordered by the president would only complement the one carried out by the NYSC since the first investigation did not include autopsy.

He added that the order by the president was not an indication that he had no confidence in the report by the NYSC.

Dalung said: “The report given by NYSC is normal and natural, that after investigation they must present their own report on what has happened.

“But in view of the fact that there are many versions of what led to the death of the NYSC member, it would be fair to look at another version of what happened to be sure of what actually transpired.

“It doesn’t have to do with not trusting the process but to gauge the report alongside other opinion, then we will now be able to tell Nigerians that this is the circumstances of how she died.

“Don’t forget that the report of the NYSC has no autopsy and an independent investigation will require an autopsy. The autopsy alongside the report will balance and it will fortify the conclusion the government will make.”

The Director-General of NYSC, Brig-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, had while absorbing  the corps of  having a hand in her death, said Oladepo died of renal sepsis occasioned by urinary tract infection.

Oladepo, a First Class graduate of Transport Management, from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Osogbo died at orientation camp in Kano over what her family alleged was negligence from NYSC doctor and nurses at the camp.

The remains of the deceased corps member have since been buried in Osogbo, Osun State.
