Most Rev. Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kaduna, expressed deep concern over the persistent issues of banditry, insurgency, kidnapping for ransom, herders/farmers clashes, and widespread poverty in Nigeria.

Speaking at the 2023 Archdiocesan Pastoral General Assembly in Kaduna, Archbishop Ndagoso emphasized the need for continued vigilance and collaboration between Nigerians and security agencies.

The bishop lamented that Nigeria still holds the unfortunate distinction of having the highest number of people living below the poverty line, emphasizing the urgent need for the incoming administration to prioritize addressing the issue of insecurity, especially with the farming season already underway. He also highlighted the detrimental role played by informants within communities, calling on the new administrations at all levels to confront the multifaceted challenges head-on and restore normalcy to the lives of the citizens.

Expressing disappointment with the outcome of the elections, Bishop Ndagoso urged Nigerians to maintain their aspirations for a better country and not lose hope. He extended his condolences to communities and families affected by conflicts between farmers and pastoralists, bandit attacks, and kidnappings. The bishop thanked the faithful of the Archdiocese for their unwavering support to the affected communities.

Bishop Ndagoso pointed out the continuing need to assist internally displaced persons (IDPs), particularly those seeking refuge with friends and family members in various areas. He appealed to parishes and Nigerians as a whole to contribute food items, clothing, money, and other essential materials to aid the affected individuals.

Encouraging priests and other pastoral agents, Bishop Ndagoso emphasized the importance of building bridges across ethnic, religious, political, and social divides. He stressed the significance of fostering ecumenical and inter-religious dialogue, as well as intercultural relations, to promote peaceful coexistence among all members of society.
