Kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike popularly known as Evans has been sentenced to life imprisonment on Friday, February 25.

The Lagos High Court, Ikeja, has sentenced the billionaire kidnapper to life imprisonment along with his two other accomplices, Uchenna Amadi and Okuchuwkwu Nwachukwu.

The trio was sentenced on a two-count charge of conspiracy and kidnapping of business mogul, Donatus Duru.

The presiding judge, Justice Oshodi, held that the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt that the trio was guilty of the crime.

According to Justice Oshodi, he observed that Evans didn’t seem remorseful for his alleged actions as he tried to lie his way out despite the video evidence.

He further added that Evans mentioned the names of some of his colleagues and the roles they played in the kidnap.

In his words…

“He was seen freely laughing and willingly answered questions. A close look at his body shows no sign of torture. He did not look unkempt. He is seen laughing even when he was told that he must be a rich kidnapper.

He showed no remorse in the dock and tried to lie his way out of the crimes despite the video evidence,”

However, the court discharged and acquitted one Ogechi Uchechukwu and two ex-soldiers of the Nigerian Army, as evidence linking them to the said crime was not sufficient.
