Bill Clinton rushed to the hospital in California

Bill Clinton, former United States President has been hospitalised in California on Tuesday for a non-COVID-related health issue.

Sanjay Gupta, CNN chief medical correspondent said the 75 year-old Clinton is being treated for a blood infection and he is in good spirits. He was diagnosed with sepsis – an infection of the bloodstream – thought to have started as a urinary tract infection.

He was in California for an event connected with the Clinton Foundation.

He said the former president may be out of the hospital on Friday.

In February 2010, Clinton was also admitted to enable him to have a clogged heart artery opened after complaining of pains in his chest.

He had quadruple bypass surgery more than 16 years ago, with two stents resembling tiny mesh scaffolds placed inside the artery as part of a medical procedure that is common for people with severe heart disease.

Mr Clinton’s doctors Alpesh Amin and Lisa Bardack, said in a statement that he was “admitted to the hospital for close monitoring and administered IV antibiotics and fluids.

Clinton previously served as governor of Arkansas from 1979 to 1981 and again from 1983 to 1992, and as attorney general of Arkansas from 1977 to 1979.
