Betta Edu denies involvement in EFCC’s N30 billion recovery probe in response to BBC allegations
Amidst mounting allegations and ongoing investigations, Betta Edu, the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, remains embroiled in controversy over her alleged connection to the N30 billion recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC’s announcement of the recovery in March 2024 has sparked intense scrutiny of possible financial irregularities within the ministry during Edu’s tenure.
In a bid to clear her name, Edu’s legal representative, Chikaosolu Ojukwu, has vehemently denied any involvement on behalf of his client.
In a letter addressed to the BBC, Ojukwu asserted that no trace of the recovered funds has been linked to Edu’s bank accounts.
He further warned of potential legal repercussions should the media outlet fail to retract what he deemed as defamatory allegations.
The letter underscored the perceived lack of fairness in the media’s coverage of the allegations, emphasizing Edu’s right to a presumption of innocence.
Despite the mounting pressure and public scrutiny, Edu maintains her innocence, insisting that she has not been implicated in any financial impropriety during her tenure at the ministry.
As the investigation unfolds, questions linger over the true nature of Edu’s involvement and the extent of her accountability in the alleged financial irregularities.
With the EFCC yet to issue a public response to Edu’s denial, the controversy surrounding the N30 billion recovery continues to cast a shadow over Edu’s reputation and political future.
