Kenneth Obinna Okolie was crowned Mr Nigeria in 2010 and went on to emerge 3rd most desirable man on earth in the globally coveted beauty Mr. World Contest. He shares his story with Isaac Oladipupo.

How it feels to emerge the world’s 3rd most desirable man

I thank God and the Silverbird family for providing such a wonderful platform to attain the 3rd place position at the Mr. World contest. I’m really excited and elated. I travelled all the way and did my best, having my country in mind, because I had people to represent. And by God’s merciful grace and kindness I came 2nd runner up. Its indeed a wonderful feeling!

Why I entered the Mr. Nigeria Contest

Firstly, I already had a modeling background. I’ve actually won an award (Black Models Award 2007) in Cote de Ivoire, and I’ve done several shows in Togo and Ghana. Secondly, I also had several ideas and intentions which I needed a good platform to showcase. This was the reason I decided to sign up for the Mr. Nigeria contest when I heard about it.

My experience on stage

Having had numerous shows and runner-ways, my confidence has grown stronger. So whenever I’m on stage I know why I’m there and I just have to deliver a 100% performance.

My strongest winning edge

My strongest features are my self confidence, attitude, intellect, poise, physic, and of course good looks (laughs!). And also the backing I had from my family, the Silverbird crew, friends and fans.

My greatest accomplishment

My greatest accomplishment is being the first ever Nigeria to become 2nd runner up at the Mr. World contest. I’m really proud of myself!

Where I see myself in five years

I see myself running my own companies, starting a family, and being an influential individual in Nigeria.

My role model and why

My role model is my dad, because he’s been a very supportive man. He’s always positive, focused and compassionate. Even before he started his company, he was very devoted to helping others.

Two people I can’t live without…

My mum and dad.

What I think of these ladies…

Omotola Jalade Ekeinde: Beautiful,

Genevieve Nnaji: Sexy

Kate Henshaw: Cheerful

My favourite hang out

I don’t have a particular favourite hangout. Anywhere I can have a good time will do because I’m not much of an outgoing person.

My view about gay marriage?

I think that is way too extreme. The Bible is against it but people still go ahead with it. It’s crazy!

My kind of lady in 5 words…

Confident, patient, suave, ambitious and Christian.

My philosophy

Life is what you make of it. So don’t wait around for it to happen, instead happen to it! Do something positive!
