“Be careful of North conspiring against you” — Ohanaeze to Tinubu
A prominent chieftain of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex socio-cultural organization representing the Igbo community, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, has called upon President Bola Tinubu to urgently tackle the escalating insecurity challenges in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Isiguzoro cautioned Tinubu to remain vigilant amid concerns about a potential Northern conspiracy against his administration in light of the security situation in the FCT.
In a statement released and signed by Isiguzoro, who serves as the factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, he highlighted recent events and statements by influential Northern leaders that underscore the pressing need for immediate attention to the security matters at hand.
Isiguzoro stated,
“In the past months, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has observed with great concern the alarming utterances and vituperations of influential Northern leaders directed towards President Tinubu.”
He specifically pointed out accusations by the Arewa Economic Forum, led by Ibrahim Shehu Yahaya, alleging that Tinubu was deliberately promoting a “Yorubanisation” and “Lagoslisation of the polity.”
The statement further referenced a warning from Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, an Islamic cleric and Northern leader, directed at President Tinubu regarding his administration’s perceived alignment with Muslims and the North.
This warning was triggered by FCT Minister Wike’s meeting with the Israeli ambassador to discuss strategies for improving Abuja’s security issues, leading to protests sponsored by Northern leaders against Wike.
Isiguzoro continued,
“These events collectively ring alarm bells and highlight the need for President Tinubu to prioritize addressing the insecurity challenges in Abuja, which may be exacerbated by economic hardships and certain Northern tendencies.”
Addressing economic concerns, the statement mentioned the removal of fuel subsidy and its impact on Abuja residents and Nigerians at large.
The economic hardships, including soaring petroleum product prices, high inflation rates, increased costs of goods and services, and escalated transportation fares, were emphasized as contributing factors to the growing challenges.
Isiguzoro urged President Tinubu to take immediate action to address the insecurity challenges in Abuja and to remain vigilant in order to safeguard his administration against any potential Northern conspiracy.
