BBNaija: 'Are we being serious?'" -- Destiny Etiko blasts Nigerians

“Is this what we should be happy about now?” Nigerian actress, Destiny Etiko fires at fans of controversial reality show, Big Brother Naija (BBNaija).

The Nollywood actress took on to social media to ignite a firestorm of controversy by openly criticizing the public’s enthusiastic support for Big Brother Naija in the face of the country’s severe economic struggles and escalating security concerns.

In a now-deleted Instagram story, Etiko did not hold back her frustration, drawing attention to what she perceives as a troubling disconnect between entertainment consumption and the harsh realities that many Nigerians are currently enduring.

“E don red for our country and I still dey see some people dey happy about BBN. Hmmmmm nawa o. Oh, una still get enough money for DATA, abi?” Destiny Etiko wrote, questioning how people can afford to focus on a reality show when basic necessities and security are major issues.

She highlighted the stark contrast between those who can enjoy such shows and those who are fighting for daily survival.

Etiko’s post emphasized her concern for the poor masses, stating, “That you can survive does not mean that everyone can. Crime is now happening everywhere, insecurity has become the order of the day, and everyone is literally calm. THE EARLIER, THE BETTER.”

Her comments have struck a chord with many, challenging Nigerians to rethink their priorities in these turbulent times.

Destiny Etiko may have of course earned some fury from fans of BBNaija and some political elites who would possibly be happy with some distraction to keep Nigerians at bay for the August 1st nationwide protest. Etiko threatening such hopes is an aggression on the political stability to some.
