Barcelona Femeni striker, Asisat Oshoala reacts to CAF Awards

The 2023 CAF Awards were all up for grabs on Monday night, and judging from performances of the 2022/23 season, it was a Nigerian affair as 3 Nigerian players (Asisat Oshoala, Chiamaka Nnadozie and Victor Osimhen) all picked up silverwares at the event.

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen secured the prestigious title of CAF’s Men Footballer of the Year during the awards ceremony held in Morocco on Monday night. Surpassing formidable contenders such as Achraf Hakimi of Morocco and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Osimhen’s outstanding performance earned him this esteemed recognition.

Following the announcement, Asisat Oshoala, Barcelona’s striker, expressed her admiration and support for her fellow Nigerian compatriot backstage. “Common Victor, that is my boy!!!!” she exclaimed in celebration of Osimhen’s well-deserved victory.

Notably, Oshoala herself was not to be overshadowed in the accolades, clinching her sixth Women’s Player of the Year Award. Her exceptional talent and contributions to the sport continued to earn her recognition at the highest level.

Adding to the Nigerian triumph, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Oshoala’s teammate, also marked a remarkable achievement by securing her inaugural CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award, further solidifying Nigeria’s representation and excellence in African football.
