Bandits storm Nigeria's Capital Abuja, abducts residents

Bandits struck again on Thursday, this time targeting the peaceful community of Kawu in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. Reports indicate that 23 residents fell victim to the brazen abduction carried out by the armed assailants.

The Councilor representing the area, Abdulmumini Zakari, confirmed the distressing incident, revealing that the gunmen, believed to have originated from the Kuyeri Forest in Kaduna State, infiltrated Kawu community and executed a coordinated operation.

The bandits reportedly divided into groups to maximize the impact of their criminal activities.

Zakari detailed the harrowing events, noting that some of the criminals invaded the palace of the district head, Alhaji Abdurrahman Danjuma Ali.

In a daring move, they abducted Ali’s son, Lukman, and his recently wedded wife. Simultaneously, other assailants targeted the residence of Alhaji Alhassan Sidi Kawu, the Marafa of Kawu and a former PDP Chairman of Kawu Ward. The former chairman and his four children were among the victims of this heinous act.

The bandits expanded their spree by entering the compound of Sarkin Pawan Kawu, Gambo Pawa. In this instance, they abducted Pawa, his two wives, and their children, further escalating the toll of the abductions.

The FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the disturbing incident, underlining the growing menace of banditry in the region.

Over recent weeks, the FCT has witnessed a surge in abductions perpetrated by bandits, with residents of satellite towns particularly vulnerable to these criminal activities.
