Bandits release one abducted Greenfield varsity student, 16 remaining

One of the kidnapped students of Greenfield University in Kaduna State has been freed by the bandits, Top Naija reports.

The mother of the student, Laurentia Attahiru confirmed to journalist that bandits released her son on Saturday but refused to give details.

As at the time of filing this report, the authorities are yet to comment on the development.

Some of the parents claimed that the student was freed after his mother, who is the wife of a retired army official from Plateau State negotiated and paid ransom to the bandits in private before her son was released.

The parents had earlier declared that the bandits have been negotiating with them separately, requesting each of them to pay as high as N20 million, before they finally demanded an amount of N100 million and ten motorcycles on Monday, May 3.

Meanwhile, the parents urged the government and Nigerians to come to their aid so that their children will be released alive from the hands of their kidnappers.

With the release of the student, the fate of the remaining 16 students still unknown even as the bandits threatened to murder them if their parents and government fail to pay the N100 million ransom as well as offer ten new motorbikes.
