Bandits abducts wife of ECWA Church Pastor in Sokoto

Bandits in Northwest of Nigeria, have released 90 abducted  staff and students of Federal Government College (FGC), Birnin Yauri in Kebbi State after 118 days in captivity.

 

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, DSP Nafi’u Abubakar confirmed the released of the students and their teachers to newsmen but did not make further clarification.

 

A father of one of the abducted students, who preferred not to be mentioned, also confirmed the released of the students.

 

“Yes. They were released yesterday but are still with the authorities. They are expected to undergo some medical check up before they are released to parents,” he said.

 

Asked whether there was ransom paid before the bandits released the students, he said, “I am not going to speak on that. I hope the authorities are in the position to explain better”.

Kidnapping is a major problem in Nigeria in the early 21st century. Kidnapping by bandits and insurgents is among the biggest organised or gang crime in Nigeria and is a national security challenge
