Armed bandits kill 10 vigilantes in Sokoto-TopNaija.ng

Unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked Chinese workers at Zungeru Hydro Power Dam project in Wushishi LGA in Niger State.

It was gathered that 3 Chinese men were kidnapped while 1 Chinese worker and a Nigerian was shot.

The Secretary to Niger State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Matane, earlier confirmed the attack to newsmen in Minna on Wednesday, he said details would be made available later.

However, the police elaborated on the attack in a statement by DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the command Public Relations Officer( PPRO).

Abiodun said that the workers attacked comprised some Chinese expatriates and Nigerians.

They were attacked while working on transmission line tower along Gussase village.

Abiodun said the Police tactical team attached to the facility engaged the terrorists in a gun duel.

While four of the expatriates were rescued, one of them and a local staff sustained bullet wounds.

They were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

In the process of scampering for safety during the gun duel, three among the expatriates could not be accounted for.

Meanwhile, joint Police/military tactical teams at Zungeru are already on aggressive manhunt of the hoodlums and rescue of the missing/abducted expatriates.

Zungeru HPP is a large energy infrastructure project and at 700 megawatts capacity, is Nigeria’s second-largest hydroelectricity power station, behind the Kainji Hydroelectric Power Plant, which has capacity of 760 megawatts.
