Ballon d'Or: Real Madrid fights back as Vinicius Jr. is denied

La Liga club and perennial Champions League winners Real Madrid have mount a resistance force ahead of the Ballon d’Or ceremony tonight.

Following the recent leak that revealed the winner of the 2024 Ballon d’Or award, Real Madrid via a motion by its President Florentino Perez have decided to boycott the ceremony entirely.

The leak took social media off-guard when it was revealed that Manchester City’s Rodri is set to take home the coveted golden ball trophy, snubbing the likes of Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr, all of whom are Real Madrid players.

In addition to Real Madrid’s delegation snubbing the Ballon d’Or awards presentation, the club will not televise on their Sports channel RMTV, the ceremony’s broadcast.

According to Spanish media outlet, Marca, “Real Madrid will not support this.”

The controversy states that the Los Blancos are against Rodri’s emergence as the winner of the award, insisting their player Vinicius Jr. has been robbed off the coveted prize.

According to another Sports outlet, Diario AS, Real Madrid has challenged France Football for not awarding Dani Carvajal; also a Real Madrid player, based on the same metrics used to decide Rodri as the award’s recipient.

“Why didn’t Carvajal win the Ballon d’Or? If the criteria is as you say it is.”

At the moment, it is unknown if there is more to this than mere metrics or behind the scenes politics.

According to José Luis Sanchez, Manchester City are the ones that initiated the antics to pull Real Madrid out of the trip to Paris for the Ballon d’Or awards presentation as the Premier League side leaked the report to Madrid.

The report comes courtesy of Italian Sports journalist, Fabrizio Romano whose social media handle revealed:

“Manchester City have TOLD Real Madrid that they knew Rodri will be the Ballon d’Or 2024.”
