22-year-old Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr who has captivated global audiences with her music, is now set to dazzle on a different stage—the big screen.
In a bold move that showcases her versatility, the Grammy-nominated artist is making her highly anticipated acting debut in the Prime Video original film, Christmas In Lagos.
This romantic comedy, directed by the acclaimed Jadesola Osiberu, is already generating buzz not just for its heartwarming plot but for its star-studded cast, which includes Nollywood favorites like Teniola A. Aladese, Shalom C. Obiago, Rayxia Ojo, Shaffy Bello, and Afrobeats star Adekunle Gold.

The film follows Fiyin (Aladese), a woman navigating heartbreak while realizing that her best friend, Elo (Obiago), might just be her true soulmate. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Lagos, the film promises to be a festive treat with its mix of romance, humor, and a touch of holiday magic.
But it’s Ayra Starr’s leap into acting that has everyone talking. Known for her fearless approach to music, Starr’s transition into Nollywood is a natural evolution of her artistic journey. “For me, Ayra Starr represents what it means to be young and female and daring and brave and fearless—just being yourself. She was on the list from day one,” director Osiberu shared in an interview with Variety.
Adding to the film’s allure are cameo appearances by musicians Wurld and Liya, and a soundtrack that features legends like Sunny Ade alongside Afrobeats powerhouses Flavour and D’banj. Christmas In Lagos isn’t just a movie; it’s a cultural celebration, blending the best of Nigerian music and cinema.
