Atletico Madrid loss not acceptable—Ten Hag

Manchester United for some reason had the believe of going through the pre-season undefeated, but for La Liga side, Atletico Madrid, they had other ideas.

The Diego Simeone side came out 1-0 winners against the Old Trafford side much to manager, Erik ten Hag’s disappointment.

The Dutchman who believes the game was quite there to be won for Manchester United due to the many chances they created, slammed his United team for being relaxed at not converting the chances.

The 1-0 loss was engineered from Joao Felix’s lone goal in the encounter as few minutes were left in the clock before he saw the back of the net.

The loss to Atletico Madrid is Erik ten Hag’s very first loss in his Manchester United’s career so far and the former Ajax boss was not quite happy with it, particularly the lack of efficiency in front of goal by his team.

“In the end, it’s about the result, and the score was not good. You have to take benefits if you create chances.

“I think we created many chances, to produce at least one goal and from the few chances they created, they scored one — that point, I am not satisfied. I have told the team it is not acceptable, you have to be sharp in the box, both sides,” Ten Hag told the club’s media after the game.

It is sure one of the results rival fans were waiting to see throughout the pre-season as they awaited the banter on Ten Hag’s first season.

For some, they consider it the return of the Manchester United they know and love.

But for Manchester United’s rivals, the Atletico Madrid defeat will serve as a playbook on how to beat this new look Red devils.
