ASUSS: Secondary Schools Needs More funds

Academic Staff Union of Secondary School (ASUSS) Ekiti State chapter ,speaking through it chairman Mr Sola Adigun, yesterday demanded an increment in schools funds from the government.

This, he said, would take care of the need for “regular training of teachers particularly in Information and Communication Technology and contemporary teaching mechanism, recruitment of experienced teachers and improvement of infrastructure for better productivity”.

Adigun spoke in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, at a ceremony set aside to commemorate the 2021 World Teachers Day where gifts and cash were presented to some outstanding students who participated in the essay competition organized by the union.

About 100 members of ASUSS in Ekiti State, who have just retired, also on the occasion, smiled home with expensive gifts and cash presented to them by the leadership of the union.

The Chairman, Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission, Mr Babatunde Abegunde, expressed satisfaction with the services and contributions of secondary school teachers to the growth of education in the state.

Abegunde restated the state government’s determination to defray all outstanding salaries and allowances owed teachers as soon as the state’s economy improved “to further boost the morale of the teachers towards sustaining the tempo”.

Some of the guests lauded the welfare package of ASUSS and as well Adigun’s leadership style, which they said had enabled the union to record unprecedented successes especially the building of an edifice that serves as its secretariat.

Some of the beneficiaries who got cash and material gifts appreciated the leadership of ASUSS for the recognition which they say would encourage hard work and diligence in society.

Academic Staff Union of Secondary School(ASUSS)Was formerly known and address as Conference of Secondary School Tutors(COSST) which was formally registered and incorporated as national welfare or trade association with Corporate Affairs Commission(CAC) Abuja on the 9th of march 2001 to carter for the interest and welfare of secondary school tutors in Nigeria. The association metamorphosed to a union christened Academic staff union of secondary schools(ASUSS) In 2005.The union emerge to take into consideration specific matter of concern to Nigeria secondary school tutors who are senior members of staff on salary grade level 07 and above an entry into the service in the middle class of our educational system.
