The Federation of Informal Workers Organisation of Nigeria (FIWON) in Osun has urged artisans to embrace innovative ideas which will help in boosting science and technology development in the state.
The State Coordinator of the group, Mr Ibrahim Olayinka , made the plea in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Osogbo.
Olayinka, who noted that artisans remain critical in the development of any vibrant economy, pointed out that the Rauf Aregbesola administration in the state had created the enabling environment for science and technology to thrive.
“The governor has invested a lot in science and technology and has also given out loans to artisans to help them in their vocations.
“We can see good roads and electricity in addition to the security put in place which are all crucial to economic growth and development ,”Olayinka said.
“I believe all artisans– welders, carpenters, vulcanizers, electricians, painters, mechanics— must unite to support the state government,’’ he added.
He, however, urged government not to ignore the yearnings and aspirations of artisans and informal workers in the state.
