"Arteta thanked me" — Aaron Ramsdale on leaving Arsenal

A lot of controversy and narratives emerged after Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta brought in a new goalkeeper to the Emirates last seen despite the incredible form of Aaron Ramsdale the season before.

Conversations arose as to Ramsdale’s future at the club, and whether he would retain his position as no. 1. Flash-forward to the 2024/25 season, the England international is now with newly promoted side, Southampton.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper has broken his silence on his eventual exit from the Emirates, revealing that despite his grievance towards the manager, Mikel Arteta personally thanked him for his contributions to the club.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Ramsdale, who joined Southampton after being replaced by David Raya last season, refused to harbor any bitterness toward the Arsenal boss for making the tough call to bench him.

Ramsdale shared that the two had an emotional conversation last week, with both expressing mutual gratitude.

“He thanked me for my time at Arsenal, and I thanked him for everything he did for me,” Ramsdale said, recognizing that managers often make difficult decisions that not everyone agrees with.
