Arsenal urged to proceed with the signing of player who is like Wijnaldum

He is just like Wijnaldum, former Leeds United striker, Noel Whelan says in regards to Arsenal target, Youri Tielemans.

Tielemans who plays for Premier League club, Leicester City, is said to be hugely considered by the Gunners as an option for its midfield that is lacking of senior experience.

In that response, former Leeds striker, Noel Whelan has urged the North London club to act fast towards nabbing the 25 year old who is just like former Liverpool midfielder; Georginio Wijnaldum.

He claims the midfielder would be the perfect replacement for Granit Xhaka.

Whelan believes Tielemans, like the Paris Saint Germain midfielder, Georginio Wijnaldum, is a very competitive midfield option for the Gunners.

Middle into the season, Youri Tielemans rejected offers by Leicester to renew his contract with the Foxes and considering the player’s current contract is due to expire in the summer, it places the club in a dark spot in negotiations.

Leicester City have accepted the fact that Tielemans will leave the King Power Stadium this summer transfer window, and would be prepared not to loose him for nothing.

Asked if Tielemans would be an upgrade on Xhaka, Whelan told Football Insider:

“I do. I am a big fan of Tielemans. He is a fantastic player – he is like a Wijnaldum in that midfield, he does everything.

“He is very competitive, great on the ball, good eye for a pass, set pieces. He can score goals as well.”

He added:

“That is an area where Xhaka has failed during his time at Arsenal. Partey is more of a sitting midfield player, and Tielemans could come in and get forward and cause problems. We know the quality he has. He would add that extra level above what Xhaka has offered over the years.”
