Arsenal suffer injury blow after Chelsea clash
Arsenal’s hopes for their final games of the Premier League have been dealt a blow with the injury of Brazilian centre-back, Gabriel Magalhaes, during their match against Chelsea. Gabriel was forced to leave the pitch in the closing stages of Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Chelsea on Tuesday night.
The 23-year-old tried to continue playing on, but his discomfort proved too much and he was eventually replaced by Rob Holding. This injury is a cause for concern for Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta, who has expressed his worry about the fitness of Gabriel.
Speaking to reporters after the match, Arteta said: “He wasn’t comfortable. He tried for 10 or 15 minutes but he couldn’t carry on, which is strange for Gabi. So, a big concern about that because normally he’s not one that wants to leave the pitch.”
Gabriel’s injury adds to Arsenal defensive woes, as they are already without his first-choice centre-back partner William Saliba due to a back problem. The Gunners have four Premier League fixtures remaining this season, and they are currently in first in the table, with their hopes of a title win in the balance.
The North London club will be hoping for a swift recovery for Gabriel, as they look to end their season on a high note. Arsenal will next face Newcastle United on May 7th, and it remains to be seen whether Gabriel will be available for selection.
