Arsenal pays up Players to leave the Club

Arsenal players on the fringes have become so devalued in the transfer market that the club, according to its technical director, Edu has decided to pay them up in order to get rid of them.

It’s all about cleaning the squad, the technical director states about the Arsenal team heading into the coming season.

Edu proceeded to reveal that the club had to pay off some of its stars in Shkodran Mustafi, Sead Kolasinac and Sokratis to leave the club as they were so devalued that profit could not be made from selling them.

To the technical director, the players were only on a comfortable living in London on long term contracts and with no transfer value that it was affecting the club and the team.

Speaking to The Sun, the Brazilian said:

“When a player’s 26 or older, has a big salary and is not performing, he’s killing you.

“In the past, 80 per cent of the squad had those characteristics and there was no chance anyone would buy them.”

On paying off some players to leave the club, Edu said:

“They don’t have a transfer value and are comfortable on a long contract living in London.

“So we needed to clean the squad and if we had to pay some to go, I considered it an investment.

“It’s better than having them blocking the path of another player. It’s not a problem if a player has a big salary and performs.”
