Arsenal fans tear into Club owner for not signing Douglas Luiz
Though Arsenal has been in fine form ever since the season started, its fans are decidedly not happy with how its owners handled the transfer of Aston Villa midfielder, Douglas Luiz.
It was widely reported that the Gunners were interested in a move for the player this summer prior to the window shutting down.
And seeing from the midfielder’s outrageous goal against Arsenal this week when both clubs faced each other in the Premier League, there is no doubt understanding the Gunners’ fans disappointment.
The Arsenal team so far has suffered injuries in its middle of the park with Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny recently going to the sidelines after being injured.
It stood to reason that like Liverpool who were also interested in a move for Luiz and had signed a midfielder in response to their own injury woes, Arsenal would have done the same with Luiz.
But sadly, the move for the player never materialized before the deadline of 11 p.m.
Arsenal also have missed out on the signing of Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans despite the summer transfer being ripe with news of a move for the Belgian.
When asked of Luiz’s future with Aston Villa prior to the window closing, Steven Gerrard said of the situation:
“I’m not in control of that. There are more than two people in control of [whether Luiz stays] but I’m certainly not one of them.
“That will be Douglas, that will be his agent’s decision as to what happens around that. I’d like to keep him because he’s a fantastic player. I’ve made that abundantly clear.”
The move to Arsenal was one that Douglas Luiz was keen on as per reports, but fair play to the Gunners though as they tried everything to nab their man with 3 offers to Aston Villa.
The first was an offer of £20 million, the second for £23 million, and the third for £25 million with all three turned down because they didn’t meet Villa’s £40 million valuation.
On Twitter, EduOut trends due to an aggrieved Arsenal fan base over the disappointing conclusion to the team’s otherwise fantastic transfer window.
A fan was noted writing:
“#EduOut I kept my mouth shut until the end of this window. But he has screwed it up once again. Blame will go all on him when we capitulate!”
While another tweeted:
“Jesus and Zinchenko joined because of Arteta. Edu didn’t play much of a part in convincing them. As far as I know he’s done the minimal once again #EduOut”
A third fan added:
“He keeps messing things up . Douglas Luiz was suppose to be an easy one #EduOut”
Like the Liverpool fans, many Arsenal fans have expressed their fears over their worrying injury situation and fear their fantastic season may be undone due to negligence.
