Arsenal can’t beat us — Pep Guardiola brags
Arsenal has never beaten Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side (wait for it), ever in the Premier League. So far, the Gunners’ only victories against the Etihad side has been 2 wins in the FA Cup and the Community Shield.
Post match of the Champions League tie versus RB Leipzig, Pep Guardiola previewed the Arsenal fixture, and maintained the trend of beating the Gunners will still continue despite falling short to Wolves last weekend.
The Spaniard also took time to talk about the difficulties his side encountered in previous games against Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, with their first defeat of the season coming at Molineux in a 2-1 defeat.
Pep Guardiola acknowledged the tie being quite difficult as they tried to attack a low block side who were intent on remaining in their own box and defending everything that was thrown at them.
“Both games [against Newcastle and Wolves] were maybe not the best performance but it was not easy when 10 players defended in the box.
“Ten players defending, five players, four players and a striker and a holding midfielder all in the box, it is not easy!”
“So it happened, we were unlucky with the first goal, we were not sharp enough, it happened. It’s many games so I can understand it.”
The former Barcelona boss however did promise his side will deliver a convincing performance to overcome Arsenal at the Emirates.
“Yeah, but I’m not going to judge my team on results.
“But despite that, if you think I am going to doubt about the players or doubt about what we’re going to do this season because today we could have lost again, then you are wrong. You are not the right person to ask these questions.
“I rely on these guys unconditionally, winning or not winning, because I know the training sessions, the mentality that they have and they prove it.”
On the challenge of the premier league title, the Spaniard said;
“And now we are going to Arsenal to do our game. Rest and hopefully we can arrive in March, April, May being there [in the title race], close to the competitions.
“And I have a feeling we will not be an easy opponent to beat.”
