Arsenal begins the Rebellion, Premier League beware

Arsenal begins the Rebellion, Premier League beware

New season, same Arsenal was once a line said by Peter Drury in jest of the Gunners’ start to a new season, but judging from their deadly form last season, using such remarks now seem like a compliment as Arsenal begins the season in fine form.

The Gunners roll into the season with their hands on silverware after pulling out a comeback against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side to claim the 2023/24 season’s Community Shield at Wembley.

The game started with Manchester City predictably starting in fine form, claiming ball possession from the first touch and forcing Arsenal to chase shadows during the main parts of the first 45 minutes.

New Manchester City signing from Chelsea, Mateo Kovacic provided the spark the City attack needed from midfield as chief creator, Kevin de Bruyne started the game on bench.

On Arsenal’s end, Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber were the notable stars of the half as they restricted whatever ball movement City’s Bernado Silva tried to pull out for Erling Haaland through the wings.

However, the Gunners’ defensive master class became tested following the exit of Jurrien Timber from Arsenal’s defensive line and the introduction of Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne in the second half.

A quick interplay between the two substitutes forced an opening on goal for City’s academy graduate, Cole Palmer to hit a stunner past Kieran Tierney and Aaron Ramsdale to gift Manchester City the lead 15 minutes to full time.

Mikel Arteta’s side looked to be on course for a traditional defeat to Manchester City again, with Julian Alvarez almost doubling the score line minutes later as he was coursed through on goal against Ramsdale.

Ramsdale’s instinctive save to deny a 2-goal deficit kept the game hopeful for Arsenal, who thanks to a master class by Leandro Trossard netted the equalizer in the last minutes of added time to force the game into penalties.

Thanks to 2 penalty misses by Kevin de Bruyne and Rodri, Arsenal races into the season with a silverware to boost confidence.

New Arsenal signings, Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber now have reasons to smile heading into the new season as they begin with a silverware medal round their necks.

Rice, Havertz and Timber celebrate with the Community Shield.

The writing is already on the wall, and Manchester City will be having a rebellion for the premier league title on their hands once more against Arsenal.
