Arsenal aren’t title Contenders, sorry—Martin Keown

Former Arsenal player and legend, Martin Keown is a man who doesn’t want to get carried away by the media rhetoric of Arsenal being title contenders.

Of course, the Gunners’ current form is one that will flatter to deceive for the pundit but Martin Keown will rather keep his hopes down as he considers the idea ridiculous enough.

The Arsenal legend though signaled praises for his side’s performance in the 2-1 victory against Aston Villa on Wednesday but in no way wants to get carried away.

The form in which Mikel Arteta’s men has gone on in the start of the season has taken many by surprise as the Gunners remain the only team in Europe to maintain a 100 percent start to the Premier League season.

The team recently saw a 5 out 5 games victory when they dispatched Aston Villa with 2 goals from Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli in both halves of the game to secure a 2-1 victory.

That 100 percent run though was seconds to being broken in the second half when a Douglas Luiz corner for Aston Villa went directly past Arsenal goal keeper, Aaron Ramsdale.

It was quite the audition tape for the Villa man as afterwards, Arsenal pumped up their interest in the player to meet deadline day.

Keown on the winning run said he “hopes this is the start or something special”, but says it is too early to consider Arsenal as a genuine threat to defending champions Manchester City.

“It’s step by step with this Arsenal team. It’s so early in the season, it’s ridiculous [to call them title contenders].

“It’s a new team but hopefully it’s the start of something special,” Keown added.
