Arne Slot: Are Liverpool returning to the Banter era?

Lex Luthor taking over the Premier League?

According to reliable sources, Liverpool are really headed there with Dutch manager, Arne Slot.

By the looks of it, Premier League clubs are really going there aren’t they? Bringing in bald headed managers to do the trick initiated by Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola.

However, Manchester United has to be a cautionary tale considering how the trick is going in Erik ten Hag’s second season with the Red Devils. And like Arne Slot, the former Ajax man who ironically managed in the Dutch Eredivise was once raved about prior to being given the reins at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag’s attacking display with Ajax that famously saw the elimination of Champions League bullies Real Madrid from the 2018/19 affair was well talked about and praised. However, the reality set in when the Dutchman was brought to the premier league to work same magic he did at Ajax only to stumble at every turn.

A similar scenario seems to be playing itself out with Liverpool as new reports from reliable source, Fabrizio Romano, places Feyenoord manager, Arne Slot as the likely manager to succeed outgoing boss, Jurgen Klopp.

This leaves a lot of panic and curiosity over what the agenda is by the Liverpool owners; Fenway Sports Group led by John Henry for the club.

If the reports come true and Arne Slot is the manager who the Reds slot in to replace Jurgen Klopp, they will be heading into untested waters like their North West counterpart, Manchester United whose decision to bring into the premier league a manager whose only managerial credit was with Ajax in the Dutch league has resulted not only negative narratives but controversy.

The Bald-headed class…?

In Liverpool’s case, this will be almost the same scenario of Manchester United replacing the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson with a David Moyes when a Pep Guardiola was on the sidelines waiting to be invited for an interview.

Arne Slot like David Moyes is untested as an elite manager, and least of, in Europe’s top 5 leagues, which makes his potential hiring by the Liverpool owners, a gamble in every sense. It almost as if sounds like the hiring of Brendan Rodgers to lead the charge, a move that could come back to bite at the club should it fail.

The name is very much unknown amongst the many other names linked or mentioned in relation to replacing Jurgen Klopp. From Xabi Alonso to Ruben Amorim, or Roberto De Zerbi and the like, Liverpool find themselves in unfamiliar terrain that could either return them back to the banter era and ruin all Klopp built or continue the success.

Either way, the Reds have a lot of eyes on them if Arne Slot is named as Liverpool manager come end of the season.
