Men of the Nigerian Army have neutralised one of the Biafra National Guard (BNG) fighters who attacked soldiers in Abia State.

The BNG fighter had stormed a post manned by troops at Amaekpu in Ohafia Local Government Area yesterday.

Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu narrated the ambush in a statement.

He said the heavily armed assailants invaded the location in a number of vehicles and fired bullets.

Troops returned fire, killed one, while others fled, leaving their vehicles. One pump action gun, among others were recovered at the scene.

Those who escaped were later intercepted at Eda by soldiers of Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ohaozara in Ebonyi State.

“The troops recovered additional three vehicles and apprehended one of the gunmen”, Nwachukwu added.

At the peak of Biafran military power, the Biafran Army was made of 5 divisions; numbered 11th, 12th, 13th (later renumbered 15th), 14th and 101st. It also had 2 separate brigades, the S Brigade, a Pretorian guard for General Ojukwu, and the 4th Commando Brigade (trained and commanded by mercenaries).
