Armed robbery suspect arrested attacking students in their hostels in Ogun

An armed robbery suspect has been arrested by the Police after the escape of 5 of his accomplice after invading the students’ hostel in Ogun state.

TopNaija reports that a distress call was received by the DPO Isara divisional headquarters, during the robbery, comprising of about six members invading the students’ hostel situated in Ipara Remo in Remo north local government area of the state.

Following the intervention of the Police, on March 10, Sodiq Yahaya, an armed robbery suspect was arrested by officers of Ogun state police command while carrying out the said robbery operation at the student’s hostel.

The suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the DPO Isara divisional headquarters, that armed robbers numbering about six have invaded the students’ hostel.

Upon the distress call, CSP Shobiyi Oluwatoshin, the DPO Isara division, quickly mobilized his men along with local vigilante men and moved to the scene of the robbery.

According to the source, the hoodlums opened fire after sighting the Police force, of which they retaliated.

However, the robbers who sustained varying degrees of gunshots injuries took to their heels and escaped to the bush as the police went in pursuit.

Fortunately, one of the members, Sodiq Yahaya was seen lying down with gunshot injury, thereby prompting his arrest.

Confirming the incident, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokesperson of the state police command, said the suspect has given useful information to the police concerning their past robbery operations in and around Shagamu area in Ogun State. He confessed that his gang always target students’ hostel for their operation because students especially females are easy to rob.

Meanwhile, the commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole has directed that the suspect be transferred to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation.

He also ordered a massive manhunt for the remaining five members of the gang. The CP has appealed to members of the public especially hospitals and traditional healers to notify the police if anyone with gunshot injury is seen in their area.
