Arab League applauds Norway, Ireland, Spain for recognizing Palestinian State
Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the secretary-general of the Arab League, hailed Norway, Ireland, and Spain on Wednesday for their decision to recognize Palestine as a state, calling it “an important step.”
“I salute and thank the three countries for this step that puts them on the right track in the history of conflict,” Aboul Gheit said on social media platform X. He urged other nations to follow suit and take similar actions to support Palestine.
Aboul Gheit commended Palestine on this excellent step and emphasized the importance of this recognition.
Ireland, Norway, and Spain all stated on Wednesday that they will officially recognize Palestine as a state.
“Each of us will undertake whatever national steps are necessary to give effect to that decision,” Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris said in Dublin.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store emphasized the need for Middle East peace acknowledgement.
“There will be no peace in the Middle East without a two-state solution. And there can be no two-state solution without a Palestinian state. In other words, a Palestinian state is a prerequisite for achieving peace in the Middle East,” Store said.
This move represents a watershed moment in international efforts to address the long-running Israeli-Palestinian issue.
