Apply! Wellcome Trust Senior Fellowships in Public Health and Tropical Medicine for Researchers

The Senior Fellowships in Public Health and Tropical Medicine supports outstanding researchers from low- and middle-income countries to establish themselves as leading investigators at academic institutions in low- and middle-income countries.

This fellowship is the most senior of a series of career awards aimed at building sustainable capacity in areas of research that have the potential for increasing health benefits for people and their livestock in low- and middle-income countries.

This scheme may be of particular interest if you’re an intermediate career fellow (such as an Intermediate Fellow in Public Health and Tropical Medicine) and this fellowship is the next step in your career as a research scientist. Research projects should be aimed at understanding and controlling diseases (either human or animal) of relevance to local, national or global health.

Deadline
27 November 2017

Programme
Graduate (fellowships, research)

Field
Your research proposal should focus on one of the areas within Wellcome’s public health and tropical medicine remit (see more on this here). Research can include laboratory-based molecular analysis of field or clinical samples, but we don’t normally consider projects focused solely on studies in vitro or using animal models.

Value
-The support includes a basic salary, personal removal expenses (if you have to move to take up your post) and research expenses (staff, materials and consumables, animals, equipment, access charge, research management and support costs, travel and subsistence, overseas allowance, fieldwork expenses, inflation expenses, publication costs, clinical research costs and other costs).
-You can apply for an International Recruitment Supplement (if you’re being recruited from outside the UK or Republic of Ireland) and public engagement funds (to involve the public in your research and inspire learning)
-After completing a year of this fellowship, you can apply for enhancement funds (to allow you to explore new opportunities or paths of discovery, or support unanticipated costs).

Eligibility
You can apply for a Senior Research Fellowship in Public Health and Tropical Medicine if you:
-are a national of a low- or middle-income country
-have a PhD or a degree in medicine and are qualified to enter higher specialist clinical training
-have five to twelve years of postdoctoral research experience.
-If you don’t have a PhD or a degree in medicine, you may still be considered if you have a first or a Master’s degree and can show substantial research experience.
You must also:
-have made significant progress towards establishing yourself as an independent investigator
-have a strong track record in your area of research
have sponsorship from an eligible host organisation in a low- or middle-income country
-have a research proposal that is within our public health and tropical medicine remit.
-If you’ve been away from research (eg for a career break, maternity leave, or long-term sick leave), the Wellcome Foundation will allow for this when your application is considered. If you’ve taken formal maternity, paternity or adoption leave as the primary carer, or long-term sick leave, we’ll allow an extra six months for each period of leave when we consider your postdoctoral experience.

Application
You must submit your application through the Wellcome Trust Grant Tracker (WTGT) via the official website. The application process may take up to four months to complete, from receipt of the main application, and consists of the following 5 stages: preliminary application submission, full application submission, scientific review and shortlisting, external peer review AND interview.

It is important to visit the official website for complete information on this fellowship award, and also to start your online applications.

Jordyn Woods takes lie detector test to prove she didn’t sleep with Khloe Kardashian’s baby daddy

Jordyn Woods takes lie detector test

Kylie Jenner’s ex-Best friend, Jordyn Woods took a lie detector test in a bid to prove she didn’t sleep with Khloe Kardashian’s ex-boyfriend and baby daddy Tristan Thompson.

In a short clip that was shared on the Red Table Talk show, Jada Pinkett Smith confirmed that Jordyn did take a lie detector test during her appearance on the show earlier this year.

Jada said;

“Jordyn did take a lie detector test … it was Jordyn’s request. It was her request to be here, and it was her request to take the lie detector test. We had a forensic polygraphist with more than 25 years of experience in criminal and civil investigations.

“It wasn’t for this show — it was for [Woods] and for people that she loves.”

Before taking the test, the 22-year-old businesswoman said she was doing it to prove her innocence. During the test, Jordyn was asked right off the bat if she had sexual intercourse with Thompson, but she replied “NO”.

At the end of the 2-hour test, Shon Thurman who is a certified polygraphist said;

“Jordyn, I thought you did a fantastic job, and you definitely passed and I believe you’re being truthful on the test.”

Though Jordyn Woods and Kylie Jenner are yet to fully reconcile as friends after reports of her tryst with Thompson first surfaced in February, she has continuously denied having sex with the NBA star.

Yomi Black & Toke Makinwa continue their drag season, Yomi responds

Yomi Black & Toke Makinwa continue their drag season, Yomi responds

Filmmaker, Yomi Black, has replied Toke Makinwa who dragged him on her IG page over his controversial post about her.

Trouble started on Sunday, December 8th when Yomi Black reposted an Instagram post by Digital marketer, Soji Ogunnaike, who dared the media personality to openly show how she can afford her lifestyle.

Toke Makinwa found Yomi’s post distasteful and took to her IG page to drag him, sharing screenshots of his meassages to her.

The media personality disclosed that they fell out after he asked for free TM bags for a product placement on his production which she turned down. Toke who recounted feeding Yomi’s crew while on his movie set, added that he has always taken and has never given anyone.

Toke Makinwa wrote;

Excuse me while I drop my crown for 5 minutes.
Inside life…… this life is a pot of beans. Now this is a public service announcement, if I have ever supported you with my time, platform, money, and more pls don’t ever come for me. You look stupid when you try. Some of you will be all up in the DM looking for favors yet want to sound Intelligent in these SM streets. Should we really tell Nigerians how you went from licking my ass to dragging me online?

This world we live in is strange, I have messages from you like this one, I would usually look away cos you are not the first but Yomi, you ungrateful fool, I have worked with you on projects with only a promise of “i”ll pay you back when we find sponsors”, which you never did, and I let it go, I have stuck my neck out for you when stylists, designers and the likes wanted your head on a platter cos you made them work without pay, when all you had was a dream, I was willing to support you with my platform, I have fed cast and crew on your shameless sham of a set and you have the nerve to come for me????

I have receipts of how much of a loser you are but I’ll leave this one here, you asked for free TM bags for a product placement on your production which I turned down cos I’m sorry your platform does nothing for me, and I am running a business, I asked you to pay for it and you got mad, you’ve always taken but never given to anyone, who have you helped??? Who have you supported?

it’s always been the other way round, you couldn’t get a freebie and now i am your enemy? Tell me, if I’m everything you say I am, why do you want to associate yourself with me? I was such an inspiration to you in private huh???? See my people hustle oooo so you don’t go from “you’re such an inspiration” to this #MCM #yourmcmisreaching

Well, Yomi took to his IG page this morning to reply her. Read his response below

On this issue, I would like to say I understand why Toke responded the way she did.
The bloggers set a trap for her and she fell for it.
I admit I saw Soji Ogunaike’s comment on Instablog and I thought it was very interesting, especially since Soji dared her to show how she made a living.

I shared it because I really thought there was a lesson there.
In the post I made it clear that it was copied from Soji Ogunaike, but the bloggers reported the story and cropped out the credit to insight a war between Toke and I. They even made the headlines more interesting by saying I (Yomi Black) dared her to show how she earns her living.

The truth is Toke and I go way back, because of our friendship, we have done a few projects in the past. As a young entrepreneur, you have to leverage your friends when you are growing.

All of those projects benefited both of us in many ways, I remember at least one that benefitted us financially (a YouTube video campaign for Chicken republic in 2013). I also remember that I did a series of photoshoots for her to launch her Vlogs on YouTube.
Fast forward to 2017, I was creating a big budget Tv series #MRBADMUS, I had loads of opportunities to promote products, and naturally I thought of my friends doing well. I reach out too many of them and offered to promote their brand on the TV show for free. I reached out to Toke especially because I wanted to compensate her for some of the projects we worked on in 2013 that did not yield financially, but at that time, Toke was at the peak of attention, so I am guessing she didn’t need it.
So naturally I gave that opportunity to someone else.

The truth is I do love Toke and her ambition inspires me, only a few people can do what needs to be done to get the Job . I am one, so I know the scarifies.

Toke asked me a question that got me thinking “who have you helped?” The truth is I am a pillar of support to many people, and I do it without the cameras.

Finally, I will say to Toke, I do not take offense with your backlash, I understand that the bloggers are to blame, I only wished you used that opportunity to tell us how you really make a living. Especially for the young ones watching”.
