The new RIC Research Fellowships  Canada are now available on offer at Ryerson Image Centre in Canada. A total of four Research Fellowships Canada are available to both Canadian and International students.

 

The Ryerson Image Centre (RIC) exists for the research, teaching, and exhibition of photography and related media. We are an active partner within the academic fabric of Ryerson University, the cultural network of greater Toronto, and the national and international artistic community.

For Research Fellowships Canada Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.

Benefits: 

Research Fellowship Canada are available to pursue Postdoctoral research programs. In 2019, the Ryerson Image Centre will once again offer four fellowships for research related to photography.

The Nadir Mohamed Postdoctoral Fellowship: $10,000 CAD.T he first installment ($3,000 CAD) to be paid upon signing of a Letter of Agreement detailing terms and conditions. Second installment ($4,000 CAD) to be paid upon commencement of research at the Ryerson Image Centre. The final installment ($3,000 CAD) to be paid after submission of the two-page fellowship report (see above for details).

The RIC Research Fellowship: $5,000 CAD. The first installment ($3,000 CAD) to be paid upon signing of a Letter of Agreement detailing terms and conditions. Second installment ($2,000 CAD) to be paid after submission of the two-page fellowship report (see above for details).

The Howard Tanenbaum Fellowship: $2,000 CAD. The first installment ($1,000 CAD) to be paid upon signing of a Letter of Agreement detailing terms and conditions. Second installment ($1,000 CAD) to be paid after submission of the two-page fellowship report (see above for details).

The Elaine Ling Fellowship: $2,000 CAD. The first installment ($1,000 CAD) to be paid upon signing of a Letter of Agreement detailing terms and conditions. Second installment ($1,000 CAD) to be paid after submission of the two-page fellowship report (see above for details). Successful applicants are responsible for complying with tax regulations under Canadian Federal law, Canadian Provincial law, and the laws within the applicant’s country of legal residence.:

Eligibility for the Scholarship

Research Fellowship Canada are available to both Canadian and international applicants.  Scholarship can be taken in Canada

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Applicants for The Nadir Mohamed Postdoctoral Fellowship must hold a PhD
  2. Applicants for The RIC Research Fellowship must hold a Ph.D. or currently be Ph.D. students
  3. Applicants for The Howard Tanenbaum Fellowship must hold an MA or currently be MA students
  4. Applicants for The Elaine Ling Fellowship must hold an MA or currently be MA students
  5. Fellowships are available to both Canadian and international applicants

Research fellowships Canada must take place in Toronto, Canada at the Ryerson Image Centre between January 7 to December 20, 2019. Dates of residency will be established in dialogue with the RIC. Fellows are expected to pay the cost of travel and accommodation in Toronto.

The stipend awarded with the fellowship is intended to offset these costs. Fellows without Canadian citizenship are responsible for obtaining travel visas required by law according to their nationality. Fellows will be provided with a desk in a shared office on the Ryerson University campus (equipped with wireless internet access) and will be offered access to the RIC’s Peter Higdon Research Centre and collection materials, and (if applicable) Ryerson University Archive and Library Special Collections.

How to Apply:

 Applications must be sent to Thierry Gervais via email at rverbin-at-ryerson.ca no later than November 15, 2018, by 5:00 pm EST.

The application must include the following:

A project proposal (approx. 1,000 words), which outlines the subject, originality of the research, its foundation in Ryerson collections, and the applicant’s scholarly abilities to address the subject. The first line of the proposal must indicate which fellowship(s) the applicant is seeking. A Curriculum Vitae. One sample of written work (20 pages maximum).

These first three components must be gathered in one PDF document.

One letter of recommendation from someone in a position to characterize the applicant’s scholarly abilities. (The letter should be emailed directly to rverbin-at-ryerson.ca by the referee before the application deadline. Please include Reference for RIC 2019 Fellowship Applicant (full name of applicant) in the email subject line.)
