APC Urges Labour Party To Go To Court

The Lagos All Progressives Congress (APC) publicity secretary, Seye Oladejo, has called on the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Chief Ifagbemi Awamaridi, to accept defeat in the just concluded Lagos East Senatorial by-elections.

Oladejo, in a statement on Thursday, advised the LP candidate to stop expressing bitterness, accusations and distractions against the ruling party.

He urged Awamaridi to apologise to Lagos residents whom he allegedly assaulted their sensibilities in the months leading to the elections. Oladejo alleged that the LP candidate’s campaign was characterised by unpretentious hate, religious bigotry and tribal rhetorics.

Oladejo further advised Awamaridi to approach the courts if he felt unsatisfied with the election results and put a stop to his immature grandstanding. He accused Awamaridi of playing the victim and inciting anarchy because he lost an election.

According to Oladejo, Lagos residents laboured in vain to identify Awamaridi’s selling points, pedigree and the substance of his manifesto during the electioneering. He said that a campaign based on blind, uninformed and bitter criticism of the ruling party without a credible alternative could only end in failure.

Oladejo also defended the APC and its candidate, Tokunbo Abiru, saying that the LP candidate’s apprehension about a free and fair election under Sen. Bola Tinubu’s Presidency showed him as a poor student of history. He said that Tinubu had unmatchable democratic credentials built on many years of sacrifice and painstaking service to the country.

Oladejo concluded by saying that Nigerians had opted for a prepared presidency by voting for Tinubu, who could only usher in unprecedented development, peace and the restoration of the country’s place of pride in the comity of nations.
