Andre Onana points fingers at those responsible for defeat

Manchester United new signing and goalkeeper, Andre Onana has made a statement that has earned him the ire of the United fanbase, following the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in their second game of the 2023/24 season.

According to his statement, the Cameroonian goalie faulted the lack of goals for being the reason for the team’s defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

In his post-match verdict of the game, the former Inter Milan man blamed the team’s strikers for not taking their chances to secure vital points for the Red Devils in their 2-0 defeat on Saturday.

In Andre Onana’s defense of the team, Onana views Manchester United’s performance as a good performance that was only lacking of goals from the attacking players despite there being opportunities to score.

Onana’s criticism of the forward line, leaves the defense free off blame, despite conceding 2 goals to Spurs via Pape Matar Sarr and United defender, Lisandro Martinez scoring an own goal in his own half.

Fair play to Andre Onana however, the Red Devils created chances throughout the game, with Tottenham goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario proving the villain with multiple saves to deny a goal.

The chances came through Marcus Rashford and former Real Madrid star, Casemiro which ended not making a difference.

The biggest chance however was when Bruno Fernandes had a clear header in front of goal but sent it a long way high and wide.

“We started well, created chances but unfortunately we didn’t score. If we scored, it would be a different game. Football is about scoring goals and we had some big chances.” Ande Onana said of the game.

For some Manchester United divide, particularly for United legend, Roy Keane, the Red Devils’ performance was nothing to tell stories about, and if anything, Onana’s statement might earn him some backlash moving forward.
