Andre Onana Gate: African Coaches Don’t Respect Themselves

Ifeanyi Udeze, a former Nigerian international, criticized Rigobert Song, the manager of Cameroon, for the way he handled goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Andre Onana is no longer a member of the Cameroon team after Song ordered him out of the World Cup training camp.

He did not participate in Monday’s Group G match between Cameroon and Serbia, which ended in a 3-3 draw.

And of course, it drew quite a lot of controversy from fans and the football world at large when the news broke out of the decision to drop Andre Onana from the squad.

It drew reaction from former Nigeria international, Ifeanyi Udeze who lent his thoughts on the conversation.

In order to advance to the knockout rounds, the Indomitable Lions will play Brazil on Friday. According to Udeze, African coaches do not respect themselves enough.

“I believe this issue could have been settled amicably in the interest of the country. The team is involved in a major tournament. This is the World Cup,” he said on Brila FM.

“But another factor that could make a player revolt, not categorically in this case though, is that most African coaches don’t respect themselves.

“When most coaches ask players for ‘perfumes’ how would they respect you?” Udeze stated.
