The security operatives in Anambra State have reportedly killed one of the leaders of the group terrorizing the state.

In the clash between both sides, the operatives were able to arrest 5 of its members while also rescuing 4 of the gunmen’s kidnapped victims in the Neni town of Anaocha Local Council of the state.

Ikenga Tochukwu, the spokesman of the state police command in Awka, revealed yesterday that the police operatives working with the vigilante in the area, were able to storm the location on Sunday, and rescue captive victims while arresting a man known simply as Emeka.

Ikenga revealed that upon interrogation, Emeka confessed to the crime and even led detectives to the hideout of their gang in Oba, where detectives engaged the gangsters in a shootout.

The spokesman disclosed that the group’s gang leader, Chinedu Ajogu, was gunned down; while five others, including their native doctor, were arrested.

For the indigenes’ role in ensuring the capture of the men and for the privileged information they were provided with, the police command commended indigenes of the state.

Their intelligence enabled the police to burst many criminal syndicates in the past week and also ensured many other criminal elements would be put out of business.

Ikenga said:

“Last week, when you came for a press conference, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Echeng Echeng, had complained about the reluctance of most communities to give information on criminals, who have been code-named unknown gunmen.

“The CP had complained that there seemed to be a conspiracy of silence among most indigenes, but I can tell you that after those reports, many indigenes have now started volunteering information to us.

“Within one week, we have got information that we never knew existed. We have also heard a lot of stories from people, and we have used that information to burst many criminal syndicates.”
