“An international embarrassment for Nigeria” — Osita Chidoka
“The Supreme Court will be doing itself and the country a great disservice if it does not take judiciary notice of what the legal position in what Chicago State University has done.” — Osita Chidoka urges the Supreme Court to take the Tinubu scandal seriously.
Osita Chidoka, the Director of Voter Intelligence and Strategy for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council in the 2023 election, has called on President Bola Tinubu to step down in order to spare the country further embarrassment.
Osita Chidoka made this plea during an interview on Arise TV, where he suggested that Tinubu should acknowledge the alleged forgery of his academic certificate.
Chidoka, a former Minister of Aviation, characterized the controversy surrounding Tinubu’s academic records as an “International Embarrassment” and expressed concern that Nigeria would become a subject of ridicule on the global stage.
He said,
“We are going to submit it to the Supreme Court; whether they will accept it or not is a question for them, but I think this is beyond legalism,
“I don’t think Nigerians should be debating if the Supreme Court will accept the document or not. It is an international embarrassment, we are going to be the subject of international conversation.
He emphasized the need for the Supreme Court to take a decisive stance on the issue of Tinubu’s academic record, which had been released by Chicago State University (CSU).
In his remarks, Chidoka highlighted the numerous challenges facing the country and argued that Tinubu could not effectively discuss solutions while holding a tainted mandate.
He mentioned economic concerns such as the removal of fuel subsidies, a depreciating currency, declining oil production, and the country’s reliance on borrowed funds in its foreign reserves.
“The fuel subsidy has gone, the dollar is at one thousand Naira, and our productions have fallen below one million barrels, our country’s reserve is made of fake dollars borrowed from banks, and our letters of credit are no longer accepted by international banks.”
Chidoka also pointed out issues related to electricity sector deregulation and the need for a national consensus to address these challenges.
“We also have issues with deregulating the electricity sector in Nigeria, and for you to take these decisions, you need a national consensus, you need legitimacy, you need to go to the West African region to spread the gospel of democracy.”
Chidoka concluded by suggesting that President Tinubu should resign from office and acknowledge any mistake regarding his academic credentials.
“Our president would be one who needs to make difficult decisions in Nigeria. The population of Nigeria is predominantly young, and they need to be mobilized.”
He called for a display of honor in the country’s leadership and urged Tinubu to admit if he did not genuinely possess the certificate in question.
“So what is at issue here is that the president should just resign, there should be some honour in this country. He should just say he made a mistake and doesn’t know how he got the certificate. “
